Religion and Science

12:09 AM

Last Monday I went lunch with a friend of mine which i would refer him as N. Happily heading towards Subway since I found a voucher from the newspaper. While we were eating and having a random conversation, the topic of Religion and Science suddenly came about. If you ask me how? Seriously, I can't recall.

N is pretty neutral with Religion and Science, he is in the middle. However the way scientists get their theories really interest him. Now this conversation is just a brief as it requires A LOT of time, research, and reading to know more.

We discussed about the big bang theory, the universe, about what proofs religions have that God exists?

Well, to start off religion is mainly about Faith. BUT if you were to tell this to a scientist, it will just make you look silly.

Based from the scientific research, the earth (the Solar System) formed from a large cloud of interstellar dust and gas(solar nebula) which rotates. Well this is roughly what N told me as well, but i forgot so had to do some research. So yes, in the science this is how the earth was formed. But for Christians we believe that God created the universe, he created earth and all other living things.

"In the beginning, when God created the universe, the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the power of God was moving over the water." -Genesis 1:1-2-

We also talked about the Big Bang Theory, which destroyed earth (during the time dinosaurs lived on earth). What Christians believe on the other hand, is that from the moment God created earth, humans and other living creatures were created as well. So if the big bang theory is really true, this also means that humans then were destroyed as well.

I myself am a believer, but I am also curious of what the scientists have found, the theories they created, etc... and I want to know more. So during the conversation, i was really open about it.

But i have some questions.

1. So the earth, planets, the sun, the universe itself were just there from the beginning? I understand they are formed by dusts, gas and other stuff up in the universe, but i'm really curious how did all these gas and dusts, basically the universe itself existed? (If you guys know feel free to drop a comment)

2. N and I also spoke about the experiences from believers. I asked him, "if the scientists believe that God does not exist, how can they explain the feelings, the experiences the believers had?"

And he answered: "Sometimes when we believe in something so much, we thought that we felt or experienced. For example in that moment, you feel God hugging you." (NOT EXACT QUOTE) - In other words he is also trying to say for example, during Praise and Worship, people sing, worship, they cry, and they claim they felt the presence of God. According to N, the scientists believe that because in our minds we believe so much that sometimes we 'think' we felt the presence of God...etc.

3. But the question that popped in my head after he answered was, can you explain my experience? I told him my experience with God.

"There was a praying session once, and this girl was praying over me, i was holding her hands. She spoke so softly i could not hear, so i leaned forward closer towards her so i could hear what she is saying. And suddenly i fell backward. From my experience, i felt like i was floating, my muscles were all relaxed as i fell. In Christianity, this is called 'touched by the Holy Spirit'".

I continued with the gift of Speaking in Tongues. I explained this documentary to him.

Please start from 2:55.

This is not an argument, but an interest in topic that we so happened to discuss.
There is no conclusion, because if there was this issued would have been solved.
At the end of the day is all about you, what and who you believe.

Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." -John 20:29-

Here are some questions and answers that i have experienced.

1. If God really exists, how can you explain the natural disasters? Why didn't he help us?
- When Adam and Eve was created, they were given free will. But they chose to disobey God and ate the apple(Read Genesis for full story). Therefore, all sickness, natural disasters and other sufferings came into the world. The sufferings that we experience today is done by men. If you have been living a faithful life to God, you will be safe.

"In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight" -Proverbs 3:6-

"Call to Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." -Jeremiah 33:3-

2. God created us in his own image, God is perfect, but we aren't, and why does God expect us to be perfect like him? Perfect such as do good, be holy, etc etc.
- God for one does not expect us to be perfect like him, all He asks for is to love one another as he has loved us, and serve him as our God, be faithful.

3. I can't recall most of it, but when i do, i'll post it up. If any of you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me, and i will answer here.

Good night!
